Dr. Kayleigh Barker BVetMed(Hons) Cert AVP Stud Med MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Kayleigh graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2009. Having developed a keen interest in equine reproduction through her work with Peter Daels at Keros Embryo Transfer Centre in Belgium, she then went on to complete an internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, with world renowned equine reproduction specialist Dr. Angus Mckinnon, where she published work on Granulosa Theca Cell Tumours. Kayleigh remained in Australia for a further 12 months at Ballarat Equine Clinic, a busy equine referral hospital. Upon returning to the Northern Hemisphere Kayleigh spent a season with Jonathan Pycock and James Crabtree here at Equine Reproductive Services; so some of you may remember her! She then spent three years working at a large first opinion equine hospital in the South of England, setting up and running their reproduction clinic and developing her interest in sport horse medicine. During this time Kayleigh was awarded an Advanced Veterinary Practice Certificate in Stud Medicine. Kayleigh went on to work at the Royal Veterinary College, dividing her time between being an ambulatory vet, teaching students and lecturing on the Stud Medicine Elective. She also spoke at the London Vet Show on oestrous behaviour in mares and various methods of controlling it.

Kayleigh has spent the last two years as the sole veterinary surgeon in the South of England at Oakingham Stud, a large privately owned sport horse stud. This varied role involved not only producing foals using frozen semen and embryo flushing/transferring but also foaling mares, managing the recipient herd, and treating over 250 horses, from foals all the way through to elite competition.

Kayleigh is recognised as an Advanced Practitioner in Equine Stud Medicine, she is an FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian, an Equine Exports Official Veterinarian and is a current member of the British Equine Veterinary Association. Kayleigh has a particular interest in assisted reproductive techniques, sport horse medicine, and geriatric ponies.

Outside of work Kayleigh can be found keeping busy exploring the Yorkshire coastline with her daughter Evie and their three dogs, as well as riding, running and doing some yoga when time allows.
